What is the difference between targeted and comprehensive evaluations?

One of the primary differences between these evaluations is the age range for each service. We currently offer comprehensive evaluations for those 30 years and younger and targeted evaluations for those 18 years and older. There are other defining features, such as:

Targeted Adult Autism/ADHD/Combined Evaluations - Targeted adult evaluations are interview-based evaluations that use questionnaire data and a semi-structured interview to assess for autism, ADHD, or both, depending on the service you are looking for. This is completed in one virtual testing session. This evaluation is most appropriate for those who are looking to see if they meet criteria for the specific area being assessed (i.e., autism and/or ADHD). These evaluations include a complete report with recommendations and potential accommodations for work or school.

Comprehensive Psychological Evaluations - Comprehensive evaluations include direct testing such as cognitive testing, neuropsychological testing, and other standardized measures. Oftentimes, Dr. Estrada consults with outside providers as part of these evaluations (such as therapists, teachers, or primary care providers). This would be most appropriate for those who are interested in neuropsychological testing, have a complex medical history, or are also wondering about other conditions, such as OCD, anxiety, or learning differences.

What does a comprehensive evaluation look like?

Evaluations are customized based on each person's needs. Prior to beginning the evaluation, you will meet with your provider for an initial intake interview where you will review your developmental, psycho-social, and medical history, as well as have an in-depth discussion about your current concerns and reason for seeking an evaluation. At the end of the initial intake, your provider will have a better picture of how to best meet your needs. You will then discuss the evaluation plan, which includes an estimated amount of time for the entire evaluation, as well as the estimated cost.

After you’ve reviewed the evaluation plan, the next step would be to schedule the testing appointment. The amount of time spent testing depends on each individual's assessment needs. Typically, testing ranges from 2 to 6 hours. Parent, teacher, and/or self-report questionnaires will also be sent via email to complete.

After the testing and observations are complete and all questionnaires have been returned, we will schedule a feedback discussion appointment about 2 to 4 weeks out from that date. Your provider will spend this time scoring the assessments, interpreting the results, and writing your integrated report. At the feedback discussion appointment, your provider will review your evaluation results and individualized action plan that was developed from these results. After the feedback discussion session, you will also receive the comprehensive report which outlines the relevant background information, testing, and most importantly, the clinical conclusions and recommendations.

Post-Evaluation Support: We are typically able to schedule post-evaluation support sessions within 3 to 5 weeks.

Therapy: Please email or complete our Contact form to inquire about therapy availability.

Do you take insurance?

We are not contracted with any insurance companies due to the limitations and restrictions insurance companies place on psychological services. As a result, we are able to use a collaborative process to determine the best care for you or your child. However, we are able to provide an itemized invoice for all evaluations and therapy services for you to submit to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement. Please see below for a list of questions to ask your insurance provider to determine your out-of-network coverage.
